Hi! I am Marica Pook, MD, an internal medicine physician that sees the sickest of the sick in the hospital. I patch patients up and then send them out. However, I frequently see them back with the same illnesses caused by smoking, poor nutrition and coach potato life style.
All my life I have been an athlete, and wondered at the huge differences between being healthy and chronically ill, and why most Americans are chronically ill, over weight (obese!) and depressed.
I turned 50 in 2013, and the tables turned on me. A routine surgery turned in to
a year three years of struggle and misery. This is my story of my struggle back and in the process, my tips/hacks and knowledge of returning to health and fitness. It hasn’t been easy, and being honest I gained weight while I was ill, ate for comfort (bring on the cookies) and was depressed. I am still not out of the woods, but hope that I can share the journey. I hope we can do this together and together turn around to a life of fitness and health, over coming bad choices, semi okay choices and sometimes just bad luck.
Chime in any time, and we will go on this journey together!
